2020 House Season Update

Like all of you, we are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to return to the field to play baseball and softball.  One thing that has become apparent during this pandemic is that the new normal will be more uncertain than in the past. It has been very difficult for us to determine when the government’s guidance will allow us to play youth sports. Even after we are given approval to play, we want to ensure that we have the proper procedures and guidelines in place that will keep our NBSA community safe. At this time, we are still committed to having baseball and softball seasons this year.

The NBSA board has tried to develop a plan for House baseball and softball that creates realistic timing expectations while giving the organization time to safely prepare for the upcoming season. Our current timeline for our House program is to have rosters set in mid-July with a target for seasons to begin around August 1st and running through the end of September. Some leagues will vary from this general guidance due to other community schedules and school sports. Our plan includes the merging of the Fall Ball seasons to accommodate for the main season slipping into September and allowing those additional players to register.  If you chose not to play or the dates do not work we will be offering refunds OR you can donate your refund to NBSA, we kindly ask you to consider this option and would appreciate your donation! NBSA is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and donations are eligible for tax deductibility in accordance with IRS guidelines.  NBSA will provide an acknowledgement letter for all charitable donations. Donation funds will be used to cover required organizational fixed costs that are normally covered by player registration fees such as field maintenance and repairs.

We will be sending additional information shortly about the refund process and expected refund date, so if the changes to the season do not work for you please follow those instructions by June 25th with your choice to donate or receive a refund.

The NBSA board has created a plan for Travel teams that will allow small group practices with the potential to start games as governance allows. The pandemic has put a time crunch on travel programs that typically end by the end of July. NBSA is trying everything that we can to allow travel teams to get as much playing time in as possible before the end of their season. Details of our safety plan and current schedule view will be distributed through our travel coaching staffs.

NBSA is reminding everyone that we still have a suspension of all baseball and softball activities (which include practices, scrimmages, tournaments/games, evaluations as well as strength conditioning).  All NPR & NPS fields are closed for team use. Fields are available for individual play per NPR specific guidance.  NBSA will continue to monitor this dynamic situation and provide updates in the following weeks as to when baseball and softball activities will resume. Until then stay safe and get ready to play baseball or softball as soon as circumstances allow us to take the fields.
