NBSA Frequently Asked Questions

When do sign-ups begin?

Registration will start on January 1, 2007. There is a $10.00 discount for early sign-up before March 1.  Registration will officially end on March 31, but late sign-ups may be accepted until leagues are full in early April.

How do I know which league is right for my child?

The age cutoff date for boys is May 1, 2007.  Girls’ leagues are based on current school grade.  Refer to the Age Cutoff Chart for league clarification.

How do I know which league is right for my 7 year old?

The 7-year-old group has an age “overlap”.  This is by design as NBSA recognizes that each child is different and this can be a big step.  The T-ball league is best suited for players that have two years or less of baseball experience.  The ball is hit from a static T.  The Coach-Pitch League introduces pitching from the coach and a pitching machine.  Players should be comfortable will “live” pitches in this league.

My child is an excellent player and I would like him/her to “play up”.

If your child is destined for the Major Leagues, congratulations, you are 1 in 3.2 Million.  Talent however, is not a valid reason for changing leagues.  NBSA has researched the proper league levels for all of our young players.

When do leagues start?

The commissioners’ meeting is February 24.  Coaches meetings will begin in late March and players will be notified in early April.  Practices will begin in Mid April and the season will conclude by the 4th of July.

What days are the practice and games?

Each league varies based on field availability, coaches’ requests and league design. Most Leagues will play two days per week; Boys Coach-Pitch will also have a Saturday game each week as the season gets underway.

Can I request a particular team?

The younger age groups Rookie-T, T-Ball and Coach-pitch allow for players and coaches to play together.  These leagues are instructional in nature and are intended to teach the fundamentals of the game.  Above Coach-Pitch players will enter a draft. Requests to play on particular teams cannot be honored in efforts to effectively “balance” the teams.  Exception: NBSA does allow for siblings to play together.

How do I sign my child up to tryout for a travel team?

Travel teams are formed in the fall for the following spring season.  The tryout dates are listed in the travel section of this site and in The Northville Record in late summer.  Players that are playing on a house team and are interested in playing on a “tournament team” are encourages to talk with their coaches about this opportunity. Tournament teams are formed early in the spring season.

I am interested in helping out, but cannot commit to being a head coach.

The NBSA is a volunteer-based organization providing opportunities for our 1400 + ball players.  We are always looking for volunteers to help out with our program.  Please consider being an assistant coach.  You are also invited to attend one of the NBSA board meetings held at the Northville Township offices the last Monday of each month, throughout the year.
