Field Conditions

Rainout Procedure and Field Playability

Until 2 pm - The Northville Community Recreation Department will make the initial decision each day as to the playability of the ball diamonds.  If they feel inclement weather will preclude play, they will cancel games on the affected fields and announce their decision via a telephonically recorded message at (248)449-9951.  If it is possible that some or all of the fields may be playable, the Recreation Department will not cancel the applicable games.  If games are not cancelled, the teams and umpires will report at the appropriate time to their assigned fields.

After 4pm - The two head coaches together with the umpire will decide on the playability of their particular diamond.  SAFETY shall be the overriding factor considered when deciding whether to start or continue a game.

Northville Parks and Recreation Department Severe Weather/Lightning Safety Policy*

• When lightning is observed, or thunder is heard, all outdoor activities shall be suspended immediately and shall remain suspended for a minimum of thirty (30) minutes after the last observed lightning or thunder.

• All coaches, managers, participants, parents, staff and officials shall seek shelter in the nearest substantial building, where possible.  If a substantial building is not available, it is recommended that individuals take shelter in a fully enclosed metal vehicle such as a car, truck or a van with the windows completely closed.

• Individuals are not to take shelter in unsafe places that may include underneath or near canopies, small picnic or rain shelters or trees.
