NBSA Coaching

All NBSA coaches are volunteers from the community, usually parents of children currently in the program. It is important for the NBSA, as well as the kids, that parents remain involved with the program.  Head coaches and assistant coaches are always needed.  Please fill out the coaching application (below) and mail it to our PO Box.

To be a coach, each applicant must be approved each season by the NBSA board of Directors.  Before acting, the Board MUST have a police records check processed.  A police records check is one of the criteria determining eligibility for volunteering for this program.  You are required to provide personal information including your social Security Number, which will be used to conduct a police records check for each applicant.  The City of Northville and the Township of Northville require this information pursuant to MCL Const. Art. VII Sec. 22 and 34.

After approval of the board, the general info and coaching portions of this form are forwarded to the appropriate House League Commissioner/Travel Program Director.  The form’s personal information section, however, is needed for the police records check only and is destroyed before distribution within the NBSA organization.  The results of the police check are strictly confidential.

2013 Coaches Clinic

The annual MANDATORY NBSA Coaches Clinic is scheduled for March 17 at1:00 PM at NHS.

The 2013 event will build on the well-received 2008 - 2012 clinics. The clinic will be presented by the NHS coaches and will cover a vast array of coaching related topics including: managing practices and games, sportsmanship, rules, dealing with umpires, player development and parent involvement.

NHS coaches will address (and demonstrate) various skill topics: pitching and throwing, infield, outfield, defensive schemes, hitting and bunting, base running and offensive schemes.

Baseball/Softball are competitive sports.  The umpires working each game realize this, and understand your desire to win each game.  However, a strong desire to win is, under no circumstances, acceptable reason to behave in an inappropriate manner. Each NBSA coach is required to sign a code of conduct which will outline the expected on-field demeanor between coaches and umpires involved with the NBSA.
